I have something really exciting to share you with today! My friend, Abby of AbbyMaed, just published her first quilting book; Cozy Quilts for the Modern Home!

As a friend, she gifted me an advanced copy and asked if I would help with a virtual book tour. Over the next several weeks she has a lineup of quilters who will be sharing projects from the book, so that you can get an idea of the amazing patterns inside. I've already made the sweetest tote bag to share with you today.

Before I share the bag, let's talk about the book because it is amazing! Cozy Quilts contains 16 different projects that are organized into 4 different seasonal chapters. As someone who loves to sew and decorate for each holiday and season, this really resonated with me! The book has patterns for 10 full sized throw quilts and 6 smaller projects, including the adorable "Sweetberry Market Tote" that I've already whipped up!
As soon as I saw this tote, I knew I wanted to make it! My original plan was to use a lighter background, but somehow I knew that my daughters would want to steal this one and darker colors work better for messy, little hands. Once I settle on a fabric pull, the rest of the project came together in two evenings...it was so fast!
I should note that I did change the pattern slightly to fit the materials that I had on hand. Abby calls for one inch wide webbing to make the handles, however I only had a thicker size. I decided to tuck the straps of the bag inside, between the lining and the exterior, rather than sew them to the outside as she does in the pattern. I also left out the interior pocket because I had exactly enough fabric to make the lining without it.

I can't wait to go back and make another project from this book because there were so many cute ones! I love the "Signs of Spring Bunting" and the "Nordic Star Tree Skirt," so I think one of them will be next!
